Teddy bears sleepover at Central Library

Last week there was a special teddy bears sleepover at Central Children’s Library.
When the children arrived with their teddies, they all enjoyed a storytime together.

And then they went on a bear hunt… looking for a bear…One shiny nose, two big eyes…
Oh, no, it’s a …. bear!

Run, run, all the way home!

But not before there’s time for some bear crafts, making teddy bear bookmarks.

And a tasty snack before bedtime.

The children had one last story with the teddies before putting the teddies to bed. Move over Santa Teddy and make some room for the others.

AAhhhh. Sweet dreams –

But wait a second, what’s going on? The teddies have got out of bed and they’re playing board games and doing crafts.

Teddy switched on the computer in the craft room, what were you trying to find teddies?

They played hide and seek. Busy Bee had a very good hiding spot!

Then it’s competition time. Who can climb the highest?

They made a new friend – Santa Penguin.

At last the bears are sleepy and they get ready for bed!
Little Teddy is making sure everyone is brushing their teeth!

Finally, it’s back to the tent where there’s time for one last bedtime story.

When the teddies were asleep they had a special visitor!  Santa came and brought some lovely books for everyone!

Night, night everyone, we can’t wait to tell the children what fun we’ve had.

Morning sleepy heads… it’s breakfast time.

Let’s choose some books for children to borrow from the library. Maisy is stamping all the books with Madeleine.

And here they are, waiting for the children to arrive to take them home.

This week marks 5 years for the Children’s Library since its move to the gorgeous library within Central Library at George IV Bridge.

To help celebrate this milestone, some very special guests got to spend the night in Central Children’s Library. Here’s what they got up…

Teddy Bear Sleepover

We got together with the  Pentland Book Festival to host a storytime for children and their teddy bears.

We helped local children make name bands for their cuddly friends before settling down to enjoy stories and songs.

On Wednesday the teddy bears stayed at the library for a sleepover and on Thursday even more teddy bears came to enjoy stories and songs at the Juniper Green Parish Church.

They spent most of the night exploring the church and by the time they were collected on Friday morning, most of them were still very sleepy.

Teddy Bears Sleepover

Last week nearly 30 children from across the city brought their soft toys (not the favourite ones!) to the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

They enjoyed stories and songs in the cosy Imagination Lab after that the toys were tucked in for a sleepover.

As their carers were away for the night, the soft toys decided to stay up late and explore the book festival venue.

Teddy bear sleepover

Our latest Teddy Bear Sleepover took place at the brand new Central Children’s Library. Rosa brought Hello Kitty.

Finn helped Polar with his bedtime snack.

Maxie, Chrissie and Louisa are ready for bed.

But where are Polar, Ooo Ooo and Little Monkey?

Where are Papagallo, Archer and Kitty?

And where, oh, where is Paddington Bear?

Here they are, looking at the map! Where shall we go?

Polar wants to go to Alaska. No, say Archer and Papagallo, let’s have a look around the library.

Kitty found library toys in the cupboard. Hurray, let’s play!

Bedtime, said Polar! Not yet cried Kitty and Ooo Ooo.

Archer found a CD player and CD songs. Everyone joined the party, singing and dancing.

Bedtime? Not yet! Horsey, horsey don’t you stop…

It is getting dark, it is way past bedtime cries Buster. Not yet, says Polar.

Midnight climbing exhibition. Polar helped everyone up first, before climbing all the way to the top.

Time for a little rest after all that climbing. We are all getting a little sleepy now.

Little Monkey and Ooo Ooo wanted to have another bedtime story. There are so many good ones, it is difficult to choose.

Bedtime! Night night everyone. Are we all here?

Breakfast at the library. Bananas for Ooo Ooo and Little Monkey.

Pancakes are Paddington Bear’s favourite food.

Oh, no, where, oh, where is Paddington Bear?

After breakfast, everybody brushed their teeth and washed their hands and faces.

Polar had a little lie-down as he was still so tired after all the climbing and dancing in the library last night.

Waiting for the children to come and pick us up. Where are they?

There is still time for some painting and drawing before we are picked up by the children.

There is time for one last story while we wait. We had lots of fun!

And what happened to Paddington Bear?

Paddington missed James so much, he climbed out of the tent, and sneaked out of the library. He walked all the way, through the city, in the rain…

… all the way home, back to James!
