An exhibition of art journals will be displayed in the Art Library from 9-16th September in support of Suicide Awareness Week. The journals were created by members of The Alma Project, an arts and mental health organisation based at Duncan Place Resource Centre, Leith.
The art journal group, Life Stories, was awarded a grant from Choose Life Edinburgh to aid the work of suicide prevention in the city. Group participants were encouraged to explore and express experiences from their lives (both positive and negative) through art and writing in a safe and supportive environment. The combination of creative and written expression helped people work through issues on an unconscious and conscious level.
The group members used a wide variety of media and a range of methods to create these journals that have become a record of their experiences, interests and thoughts.
