‘Burke and Hare’ graphic novel launch

Much has been written about Burke and Hare, Edinburgh’s infamous 19th century serial killers, but for the first time this harrowing tale has been presented in the form of a graphic novel (you may have caught the story on STV news)– and we are delighted to announce that writer Martin Conaghan and artist Will Pickering will be visiting Central Library to talk about their collaboration and sign copies of the book. To get a flavour you can read an interview with Will and Martin on the Forbidden Planet blog.

The launch will held on Thursday 28th January at 6pm,  in the Edinburgh Room at Central Library.  Numbers for this event are limited, so you must book a place through central.fineart.library@edinburgh.gov.uk or ring 0131 242 8040.

Want to know more about this grisly tale? Read this account or visit the Edinburgh Room where you’ll find a dizzying amount of books, reports, novels, plays and essays (both contemporary and modern) covering these scandalous deeds.

If you’re inspired to find out about the techniques of the graphic novel, the Fine Art Library has a wide range of resources to explore – and don’t forget our libraries stock a vast amount of graphic novels to suit all ages and tastes.
