Let’s celebrate libraries

We’re celebrating everything great about our libraries. This week there’s going to be even more activity in libraries than usual  – and that’s saying something.

Porty Poetry Bash (4th October)
An open mic National Poetry Day bash. Inky Fingers takes over Portobello Library with its wild poetic energy and supportive platform for new writers! Details on the inkyfingers blog

Marianne Wheelaghan
The author of ‘The blue suitcase‘ will be at Stockbridge Library at 7pm on Wednesday 3rd and Ratho Library on Thursday 4th from 6.30 to talk about her remarkable novel.

Portobello Book Festival
Portobello Library is the lead venue for the festival, whose line up includes Chris Brookmyre, Denise Mina and James Robertson

Super Saturday at Morningside Library
Live classical guitar and fiddle music to launch Saturday afternoon opening at Morningside Library

Music from Saint Mary’s Music School
Library entrance hall from 11.00 – 11.15am

‘A visit by Queen Victoria – drop in and draw event’. Lending library, 11am – 1pm and 2-4pm on Saturday 6th October

Gaelic song from the pupils of Tollcross Primary School, library entrance hall at 2.30pm on Saturday 6th October. They’ll be singing An Ribhinn Lùrach and O’ s toigh leam an Ciobair. Pupils will also perform a self-accompanied Clàrsach and a duet.

Music from Wounded Knee. Music Library, 2-4pm on Saturday 6th October

‘Detective for a day’ competition takes place in the library all week beginning 1st October. Pick up a quiz sheet in any department

Make your mark on the library‘ using the library blackboard in the Art Library

Scottish music with Madeleine Brand and Anne Gass, Music Library 11am on Saturday 6th October
