The exhibition traces the Society’s rich history, from its beginnings as a health mission to the poor in the Cowgate in the 1840s to its global reach today. Significant members include Dr David Livingstone, an early corresponding member of the Edinburgh Medical Missionary Society, Dr Joseph Bell, the real-life inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and Robert Laws of Malawi.

Publications, letters and other material from the EMMS International Archives will be on display for the first time alongside stunning images, captured by three international photographers, which tell the story of EMMS International’s current work in Malawi, Nepal and India.

The exhibition is free and runs from 2 – 25 August 2016.
