If you like maps…

The web is home to some incredible map-related sites. Here are a few of our favourites.

Geoguessr

Be warned – this site is addictive. Like all the most brilliant ideas this is very simple – Geoguessr uses Google Street View to plonk you somewhere randomly – all you’ve got to do is guess where in the world you are. You earn points depending on how close your guess was to the actual location.

Song Map by Dorothy

How far is McArthur Park from Penny Lane? Can you take a shortcut down Alphabet Street? Take a wander with this genius map of song titles from the clever people at Dorothy.

The Island’ by Steven Walter

Steven Walter’s fantastically detailed and very personal map of London is really quite incredible. Could someone do one for Edinburgh please?

Googlefaces by Onformative

This project scans Google satellite images to find “faces” from above with some amusing results.

Edinburgh Reads by Edinburgh Libraries (!)

Take a look at our literary map of Edinburgh to see which novels were set in your neighbourhood. We’ve also done a world map of detectives for crime fiction fans.

More marvellous maps soon…
