Happy World Book Day!

World Book “Day”??? We’ve been celebrating all week with a hat-trick of library visits from stand-up comedian, TV writer and best-selling author of the World of Norm series, the one and only Jonathan Meres.

Jonathan Meres at Drumbrae Library Hub, June 2012

Jonathan has been an absolute star, entertaining audiences at Wester Hailes, Craigmillar and Fountainbridge Libraries with extracts from his books as well as signing books and talking about what it’s like to be a writer.

A committed tweeter, Jonathan has been enthusiastically sharing his experiences with his followers – and it’s safe to say he’s been enjoying himself.

Jonathan’s visits, and World Book Day, are a great opportunity for us to get budding readers excited about books.

Children who use libraries are twice as likely to be above average readers. We’re hoping the events with a riotously hilarious author like Jonathan prove a fantastic way of getting local children’s imaginations fired up and on the journey to becoming avid readers.
