Morningside Library will be closed for a temporary period from Saturday 8th December to carry out necessary maintenance and repair works.
Dry rot and fungal growth has been found at the front of the building and immediate action needs to be taken to treat this and prevent it from spreading.
To allow the safe removal and treatment of the infected areas, the library will need to close for a short period of time and will reopen early in the New Year. Every effort will be made to reopen the library as quickly as possible and minimise disruption for library users.
Councillor Norma Austin Hart, Vice-Convener for Community Libraries, said: “I understand that closing the library will be frustrating for the people who use it and I can assure you that we will be doing everything we can to get the service up and running as soon as possible.
“However we have to act quickly to ensure the dry rot doesn’t spread any further and closing the library will make sure we can safely and effectively eliminate the infection.”
A temporary service will be offered from a mobile library parked on Falcon Road West while the main building is closed:
Monday 10am – 7pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, 10am – 12noon
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 10am – 4pm
