October’s exhibition in the Art Library is an excellent collection of 3D Felt Textile Art by Russian born artist and designer Larisa Guzova.
Since leaving Russia, Larisa has lived overseas, in France and Spain, and now in Edinburgh, where she has been based since 2001.
She graduated from Heriot-WattUniversity in November 2011 with a Master of Arts in Fashion and Textile Design. On completion of her degree The Worshipful Company of Woolmen awarded her The Best Designer Working with Wool Award.
Larisa has found inspiration and direction in her own national identity, with her main point of influence being her childhood memories and love of nature.
She says: “I am facinated by natural textures, shapes and colours, and like to work with them in a contemporary style. I hope to bring people closer to nature by using different textures, textiles and forms, be it through digital design, fashion garments or the medium of textile art.”
Larisa held her first fashion showcase as an emerging designer during London Fashion Week, February 2012, with Fashions Finest. This September, during London Fashion Week Show, she presented her textile design collection as a finalist in Britain’s Top Designer competition.
The exhibition will run in the Art Library, George IV Bridge until 31 October.
How fascinating. I’d love to see this. Thanks for information – her website is amazing!
