Children’s author Mike Nicholson writes about a fantastic creative event for 10 – 14 year olds
‘Write a Story in 60 Minutes’ is a highly interactive session where, with the aid of a stopwatch and bell to keep us on track, I use a group’s ideas for storylines, characters, beginnings and endings and descriptions.
Together in 60 minutes we turn giant blank sheets of paper into a scribbled story. Typically with this session I then write up the story afterwards, and the group receive an ‘author-written’ story within 24 hours entirely based on their ideas.
As well as the session itself being fun, it is a challenge to those who say that they ‘don’t have ideas’ or that ‘writing is boring’.
“Write a story in 60 minutes” happens at Oxgangs Library on Friday 17th August from 1.30 – 2.30pm and is free. To reserve a place call 0131 529 5549 or email oxgangs.library@edinburgh.gov.uk
