Make that change!

Transition is an amazing initiative to “decrease dependence on finite resources, develop local sustainability and shift to a low carbon lifestyle.”  Well, you can’t argue with that, can you?  We all want to do our bit – no one wants to be responsible for the destruction of this planet, so it just makes sense for us all to change our lifestyles subtly, as damage control, if you will.  But it can be really difficult to know where to start.

Transition Edinburgh South and Transition Pentlands will be in residence at Oxgangs library between 2pm and 4pm for a whole week, beginning on the 7th November.  Each day, they will be focusing on a specific aspect of more sustainable living – and they want to hear your thoughts and questions! Green Heart (And the Green Grass Grows All Around, All Around)

Monday: Community Resilience

Tuesday: Energy

Wednesday: Food

Thursday: Transport

Friday: Waste and Recycling – with bonus crafty activities for families!

The staff and volunteers will be encouraging library visitors to take part in activities relating to the daily topic.  Those who participate will be entered into a fabulous prize draw to win £50 worth of vouchers! Finally, on Saturday morning, between 10:30 and 12:30, there will be a “Brew and a Blether” workshop, where you will be invited to discuss your ideas for making your community more sustainable.  As if free tea and chatting about improving your community isn’t enough, everyone who attends the workshop will receive £10 worth of food vouchers.  Yum!
